Correspondence, personal and official documents, reports, speeches, research materials, travel diaries, newspaper clippings, and other printed materials documenting Gilchrist's interest in international affairs especially his activities on behalf of the League of Nations, United Nations, and Institute of Pacific Relations. Topics include the mandates system and the Permanent Mandates Commission of the League of Nations, administration of Danzig and the Saar region, development of the city in China, the Belgian Congo (later Zaire), and site selection for United Nations headquarters.
